By far one of the most beautiful wineries I have ever visited! My girlfriends can't stop talking about it!
Viñas de Garza was founded in 2003 with the belief that small wineries in Mexico can produce ultra premium wines and compete with the largest wineries which are often more focused on quantity over quality. In order to ensure that the vineyards were mature enough to produce excellent fruit and the winery's infrastructure was capable of producing exceptional wine the owners waited until 2006 to produce their first vintage.
This family owned winery was a dream of the owners Amado and Ana Garza, and was created in their image with intense personal attention to cultivating the very best vineyards. As the saying goes, "you can make bad wine with good grapes but you cannot make good wine with bad grapes." Even today the owners are involved in the selection process, selecting only the very best grapes by hand - a laborious endeavor that is symptomatic of a true life passion.
The vineyards are spread across twenty two acres with another twelve in development. The first wines produced were Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon however the winemakers continue to experiment with interesting blends using Tempranillo, Grenache, Zinfandel, Carignan, Nebbiolo, Montepulciano, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Petit Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscato Canelli.
In 2006 they produced their first wines - Amado IV (Cabernet Savuignon, Tempranillo, Merlot, Zinfandel blend) and Mogorcito Tinto (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot. Today, the winery has ten different labels that are representative of the passion and vision of the Garza family.
